About Us
Established in 2003, the Peel Elder Abuse Prevention Network (PEAPN) is a collaborative of over 45 community organizations that have come together to stop and prevent the abuse of older adults in our communities.
Mission Statement
By working collaboratively with our network partners and older adults in our communities, PEAPN will increase Peel’s ability to recognize and respond effectively to the abuse of older persons by facilitating, supporting and advocating active and proactive interventions using a standard community protocol. An integrated community response to dealing with and preventing elder abuse will help build communities in Peel where seniors can live safely free from abuse, with respect, dignity and as valued members of society.

Goals
- To develop and implement a collaborative, coordinated and effective community response to the abuse of older persons across the Region of Peel, using a standard community protocol.
- To actively engage older adults across the Region of Peel in the development and implementation of a standard community protocol for elder abuse, and to support them through outreach activities to seniors living at-risk throughout the region.
- To advocate for government policies at all levels of government that strengthen Peel’s community response to elder abuse, including implementation of Mandatory Response legislation at the provincial level which would mandate a dedicated government agency to do outreach to seniors in the community.
- To actively engage in education and outreach initiatives which improve awareness of elder abuse. These initiatives must also identify where older adults who are facing abuse can get help, and how elder abuse can be prevented.
Objectives

- To increase community awareness of the supports and services available to victims of elder abuse, and how to access help.

- To secure funding to increase our capacity to provide services to seniors living at-risk or in abusive situations.
- To establish core funding for paid staff positions.
- To strengthen relationships between residents, organizations, funders and all levels of government so that Peel Region is able to provide coordinated services and support to victims of elder abuse.
- To provide a forum for interaction and information exchange between organizations and all levels of government that deal with issues affecting older adults, including the abuse of older adults.
- To strengthen the level of commitment and support from the Region of Peel for the work of PEAPN.
- To actively participate in World Elder Abuse Awareness Days, ONPEA regional meetings for Central West, ONPEA provincial and regional conferences/teleconferences and providing regular feedback to ONPEA about local and provincial issues that affect abused seniors.
